| The multi-channel sports operator, which recently unveiled its superb MTN Africa Cup of Nations coverage, has confirmed that it will broadcast all 31 Euro 2008 matches live.
SuperSport announced its Euro 2008 line-up on Sunday (2 December) just after its coverage of the hotly anticipated Euro 2008 draw. The draw was screened live to DStv homes across the continent, direct from Lucerne in Switzerland.
European football fans, who watch their favourite players regularly through SuperSport’s live coverage of Europe’s major leagues and competitions, will now see these global superstars representing their national teams at one of world soccer’s most prestigious events.
Starting on 7 June next year, the tournament begins after Europe’s top leagues close their playing season, and will offer up dramatic mid-year soccer entertainment with strikers targeting goal-scoring records.
Euro 2008 involves the 16 top teams in Europe playing in four groups of four teams. After the group phase, played on a league basis, is completed, the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout phase, with the final being played at the magnificent 50 000-seater Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna, Austria on June 29.
“In keeping with our commitment to bring our subscribers throughout Africa the best live coverage of soccer from around the world, we are proud to be broadcasting all the matches at Euro 2008,” said SuperSport CEO Imtiaz Patel.
A further enhancement to SuperSport’s football coverage in Africa is the introduction of a Saturday and Sunday edition of its popular magazine show, Soccer Africa.
Presented by Thomas Mlambo and Thomas Kwenaite, it will have the same format as the Tuesday edition of the show, with discussions centering around all the major leagues in Europe and particularly the performances of African players in those leagues.
The 30-minute show will begin at 5:30pm CAT every Saturday and Sunday from 8 December. |
