Rock legend Joe Cocker to perform in Durban
by Press Release
19 December 2007

Yet another rock icon is to perform in South Africa and this time it’s Joe Cocker. Kicking off the South African leg of his world tour at the majestic Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens in Cape Town on 26 February, Cocker will then move to the indoor arena at Durban’s ICC on the 29th before heading to Carnival City in Brakpan for his concluding performance at the Big Top Arena on 1 March 2008.

J

oe Cocker is best known for his unique gravelly voice and talent for recreating well-known songs and making them his own. The Sheffield-born singer’s long and illustrious career has seen him undergo a major career rebirth that restored him to the fame and status he had during his rise to stardom in the late 1960s.

By the mid-80s, Cocker had firmly established himself as one of the most iconic figures in music, contributing to soundtracks to movies including ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ and ‘9 ½ Weeks’ before releasing one of his most widely acclaimed albums, ‘Unchain My Heart’ in 1987.

Nearly four decades after his legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969, Cocker remains one of rock's paramount survivors. His new album, ‘Hymn for My Soul’, was released in Europe earlier this year to critical acclaim, has made the top ten in the UK, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Cocker was also recently awarded a prestigious OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen for his services to music.

Fans can look forward to him belting out vintage hits from across his repertoire including ‘A Little Help from My Friends’, ‘You Are So Beautiful’, ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ (Hot Chocolate weren’t the only ones to make this song a hit) and ‘Up Where We Belong’.

Cocker’s last performance in South Africa in 1994 was sold out with thousands of ardent fans clamouring for tickets. Don’t miss your chance to see one of rock’s finest stars live in SA. Tickets are available from Computicket on 083 915 8000, www.computicket.com and outlets countrywide.
