event which is due to take place at Suncoast Casino and entertainment Centre from 25 – 28 June is , according to eThekweni’s Deputy Mayor – Logie Naidoo, the jewel in Durban’s cultural calendar.
It is a showcase for young and emerging designers which this year has extended its search into the community in collaboration with the Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism.
‘In the field of fashion design, the Department will give emerging fashion designers the opportunity to rub shoulders with established fashion designers for the first time,’ says MEC Weziwe Thusi.
‘Durban fashion week has become an important event in the fashion calendar, especially for young designers in our province.
‘The Department is especially proud because Durban Fashion Week also gives rural designers a platform to showcase their talent to a larger audience.
‘Young designers sharing a platform with their experienced counterparts can only improve their skills,’ she said.
‘MTN Fashion Week has always taken fashion seriously and intrinsic to the success is investment at grassroots level,’ says convenor – Vaneshree Singh. ‘KZN has a wealth of exceptional design.’
