Johannesburger at heart, it’s always a pleasure to return to the City of Gold. As a result the invitation to visit the upgraded Rosebank Hotel was accepted with alacrity… and I must admit I was blown away with its new image.
From the entrance lobby to each of the318 rooms, changes abound bringing the hotel well into the 21st Century and sensations are the name of the game. The use of textures, fragrances, sensuous nuances, colours and more individualise each floor with their deluxe rooms and suites.
After an enthusiastic welcome by the extremely friendly staff members I was accommodated in one of the deluxe rooms on the sixth (seexth) floor… and luxury is the name of the game from a choice of pillows to bathology – where the bath will be run for you, set to the right temperature with bath salts and more.
The Hotel is all about service – whether it is greeting guests in the lobby or returning to your room after an evening’s entertainment to find the bed turned down, dressing gowns laid out on the bed, slippers on the floor with a scattering of rose petals. In addition bottled water and a glass are placed at each side of the bed.
To say I was spoilt is an understatement. A tray of tasty nibbles from biltong to preserved figs and camembert cheese awaited my arrival together with a bottle of Red Wine and a note to say that my stay was going to exceed all expectations … and that it did! A fully-stocked mini bar, specialised Rosebank Hotel filter coffee (complete with plunger) and a choice of teas complete the rooms.
The Rosebank is a hotel with class – ideal for the businessperson as well as the holiday traveller. There is a fully-fledged business centre complete with fax, photocopier and computers in addition to conference rooms with state-of-the-art equipment for presentations. In addition the hotel is a hot spot enabling one to be able to be on-line at all times.
Taste
As I mentioned earlier the Hotel centres itself around sensations – one of these being taste, and where does one begin …?
The Circle Bar has its own resident mixologist – what you may ask? Well, this is a gentleman who specialises in the creation of cocktails using all the freshest ingredients… and the Hotel has the best of the best… whether it’s long or short there’s something to suit every taste.
Fresh is a restaurant of note with delectable desserts which guarantee to have you salivating before you’ve even reached your table… and that’s for supper, breakfast is just as exciting from champagne and orange juice to Belgian waffles and cream, crumpets, Danish pastries, designer omelettes … I could go on and on.
For those who are more carnivorous in nature there’s the Butcher Block Executive Grill with its extensive menu – steaks of all varieties, combos, lamb shanks – you name it I’m sure they’ve got it.
Feeding the soul
Currently under construction is the internationally-branded Seven Colours Spa which will be providing individualised treatments for the Hotel’s guests. In addition, the first of its kind – a reflexology pool awaits to refresh and rejuvenate.
Last but not least the technogym, available 24/7, allows one to burn off the frustration of a hardworking day.
There’s so much to say BUT it’s for you to find out more. You may enter the Rosebank Hotel and be greeted with a smile BUT you are guaranteed to leave the Hotel grinning like a Cheshire cat.
