T

his round of the national model car championships is set to deliver high speeds and thrills for the spectators who are bound to pack trackside to witness some of South Africa’s finest drivers at work.

For those unacquainted with the sport, these radio-controlled 1/10 and 1/8 scale model cars reach speeds in excess of 120km/h on a track roughly 300m long. Think of it as Formula 1, just scaled down. Refuelling, tyre changes and fast racing is the norm in the series.

With multiple South African champions attending the event, it promises to be an event of high standard and world class racing. Qualifying begins on Saturday (17 July) at 9am with the finals starting at the same time on Sunday.

Entrance to watch these racers in action is free. Refreshments will be on sale.
