lindside has been playing gigs since 1994 and has released five albums. But it is the singer, Christian who provides the depths to the lyrics. He was profoundly moved by the HIV/AIDS situation in South Africa during a short visit and it inspired him to write songs which could get the message of futility across. Says Simon: ‘We can’t wait to get to South Africa to experience everything for ourselves.’
When it comes to creating songs has no specific pattern – ‘sometimes it is the music and at others we are inspired by the lyrics’. AND the band’s reception has been ‘incredible! Over the years we have found a way of expressing ourselves which is uniquely our own.’ (I must admit that I was surprised by Simon’s use of English (being a second language and all that) but as he says; ‘We’ve spent a lot of time in the States and I’ve been learning English since the fourth grade – it’s good to practice’.)
I asked Simon how he would describe the band.
‘Energy, passion – we play from our hearts. We are rooted in Rock – slightly heavier – but we try not to put a limit either way.’ When it comes to the acoustic side – ‘a lot of our music is written using an acoustic guitar – it brings more melody into the song.
With regard to relationships among the band members who have been together since inception:
‘It’s almost scary to see how well we get along. We’ve been playing together for 12 years and have developed a lot of respect for each other.’
What can we expect from their tour?
‘Live shows are a main priority for us – we have had a lot of response over the years. We are passionate and promise that the audiences will be entertained!’
